Anglistic Papers – An Inspiration not only for Students of English Language and Literature
This new book contains a varied collection of essays and studies originates from the author’s own master study of English Language and Literature at the European University of Cyprus. He arranged the term papers, which he prepared for the different courses in temporal order. While this might seem a bit arbitrary at a first glance, it is completely accidental, as the author did not have much choice when it came to choosing his courses. In order to complete his studies in four semesters, he had to enroll in whatever courses were available. The essays in this collection are a testament to the former student’s ability to keep himself busy with interesting topics, even when the courses didn’t really cover them. The first essay in his book is a good example for this: it was part of the course “Postcolonial Studies”. “Zorba the Greek” was actually not a topic of this class. For the author, however, it was always exciting to leave the trodden path and see if he could find fresh ideas by looking at well-known literature from a different angle.
These essays and studies in “Anglistic Papers” by Bernd-Peter Liegener are not designed to give an overview of English Language and literature. They are, however, a good inspiration for the occupation with the manyfold fields of Anglistics. Other students will be inspired to follow the author’s path and look for interesting topics in courses they have only taken because they had no other choice. The essays provide valuable insights, but also don’t fail to entertain the readers.
